This energetic sunset session with the Rodriguez family on the beach in Santa Pola was one to remember. It was full of love, giggles and cuddles, with kite-surfers sweeping across the water behind us. It’s also a perfect example of why autumn and winter are such a good time for family photos on the Alicante coast.

A sunset session full of energy

From the moment we arrived, the Rodriguez family brought a wonderful enthusiasm for life, and I couldn’t have asked for a better backdrop to match it. As the light softened towards sunset, the breeze brought the kite-surfers out in force, giving us a cinematic scene behind the family as they played, laughed and cuddled.

My approach is always to let families be themselves. The best photos come from real moments: a shared joke, a spontaneous hug, children running towards the sea. Rather than posing, I gently guide and then capture what happens naturally.

Why November is perfect for beach photos in Alicante

In November, the beaches around Alicante are much quieter than in summer, but there’s still plenty of sunshine. That makes it one of my favourite months for family photoshoots:

• Quieter beaches. There’s more space to play and fewer people in the background of your photos.
• Softer, warmer light. The low autumn sun is flattering and gives a beautiful golden glow.
• Comfortable temperatures. Pleasant enough for bare feet in the sand, without the summer heat.
• Earlier sunsets. Sunset comes early in the evening, so a golden-hour session fits easily around children’s bedtimes.

Santa Pola: a great spot for family photoshoots

Santa Pola is a coastal town just south of Alicante city, in the Baix Vinalopó area of the Valencian Community. It’s the closest town to Tabarca island, and it has a wide choice of beaches, including Playa Levante, Playa de la Ermita, Playa Varadero, Gran Playa, Playa Lisa, Playa Tamarit and Playa de la Gola.

With so many beaches to choose from, we can pick the right spot for your family, whether you’d like wide open sand, a quieter cove or the energy of kite-surfers on a breezy day.

Tips for a family beach photoshoot in Santa Pola

Book around golden hour. The hour before sunset gives the softest, most flattering light.

Bring a layer. Evenings by the sea can get breezy, especially in autumn and winter, so a cosy jumper or jacket in a colour that matches your outfits is a good idea.

Keep outfits simple. Soft, coordinating colours look beautiful against the sand, sea and sky.

Let the children lead. Some of the best moments come when little ones are left to explore.
