Wedding Elopement at Sunrise: Beach Ceremony in Alicante, Spain
Wedding elopement has become increasingly popular over the years, with couples choosing to marry in sunnier climates, with fewer people and without the risk of the unpredictable weather of the UK.
Megan and Jeff were no exception, inviting me to capture their wedding at sunrise, on the beach, in the beautiful port city of Alicante in October. When Megan and Jeff planned their elopement, they wished for an intimate wedding ceremony with just 14 of their closest friends and family members on the beach.
Why Alicante?
What leads to an American getting married in Spain? Well, having lived in Alicante for a few months in her early 20s, Megan fell in love with the city, with Playa del Postiguet quickly becoming her favourite beach whilst living here. So, of course, she couldn't wait to bring her future husband and her loved ones to the city to explore and experience the treasure trove of places she had discovered. One place, in particular, was Explanada de España, a popular pedestrian walkway in the city which runs parallel to the port. You'll see below I captured a really heartwarming moment with Megan and her father walking down the Esplanade before the ceremony and another of Megan pointing at Santa Bárbara Castle (Castillo de Santa Bárbara) and explaining to him how you would walk to the top. They can look back on these little moments and say, "oh, I remember you telling me...etc.".
It was important to both Megan and Jeff that they had an English-speaking photographer in Spain to explain what moments they wanted to be captured during their elopement and the feel of their special day.
